Essential cookies

PullAtlas sets strictly necessary cookies: the authentication cookies our sign-in provider uses to keep you securely logged in as you move between pages. Without them you could not stay signed in, so they cannot be turned off while you use the app. These cookies hold a session reference, not your manuscripts; they last for your session or, if you stay signed in, until the session expires or you sign out.

Your work on your device (local database)

PullAtlas is built local-first. When you open the workspace, it keeps a complete copy of your projects in a database held by your browser on your device, and syncs that copy with your account. The editor reads from and writes to this local copy. It is what lets you keep writing when your connection drops, and what makes the workspace open quickly the next time. It is essential to how the app works, so like the sign-in cookies it cannot be turned off.

The local copy stays on the device after you close the tab. It is removed when you sign out of PullAtlas on that device and when a different account signs in there, and you can remove it yourself by clearing this site’s data in your browser’s settings. If you use PullAtlas on a shared or public computer, sign out when you finish.

Interface preferences (local storage)

For small interface preferences such as your theme (light or dark) and layout choices, PullAtlas uses your browser’s local storage rather than cookies. This stays on your device and is not used to identify or track you.

How you found us (local storage)

If you arrive through one of our own links or adverts, its address may carry campaign tags naming the source, medium and campaign. PullAtlas notes those three values, and the date, in your browser’s local storage. The note records the first such link that brought you here and is not overwritten by later visits, and it expires after 30 days. It stays on your device unless you create an account within that time, in which case it is saved with your profile so we know which of our own campaigns brought you. It holds nothing about your browsing, cannot identify you on its own, and is never shared with any advertising platform or anyone else.

In the same way, if one of the guides on this site sends you to sign up, PullAtlas notes which guide it was for up to 7 days, so that your new workspace can start you off with what the article offered. Nothing but the guide’s name is stored, and it is used only inside your own workspace.

Managing cookies

You can delete cookies and control how your browser accepts them through your browser’s settings. Most browsers let you block or remove cookies for a site. Note that blocking the essential cookies above will stop you being able to sign in to PullAtlas.

Changes to this policy

If we ever introduce further cookies, we will update this page and, where the law requires your consent, ask for it first. The date above always reflects the current version.
