Smart rename

Change a character’s name once, and everywhere it appears. Hobby

Renaming a character halfway through a draft is a chore that plain find & replace does badly, it catches substrings you didn’t mean and misses the record itself. Smart rename understands that you are renaming an Atlas entity, and does the whole job. It is available on Hobby and up.

What it does

Rename an entry and PullAtlas updates the entry and propagates the new name through your manuscript prose in one pass, so the character record and every mention of them stay in sync.

Renaming an entity

  1. Rename the entry

Open the entity in the Atlas and change its name.
  2. Review the changes

PullAtlas shows you where the name appears across the manuscript and what it will change, before anything happens.
  3. Apply

Confirm, and the rename runs everywhere at once.

Rename or find & replace

Use smart rename for anything that is an Atlas entity, a character, a place, a faction. Use find & replace for plain text that isn’t an entry. The two share the same careful apply engine underneath.

Done safely

Like any manuscript-wide change, a rename takes a snapshot first and asks you to confirm what it will do. If the result isn’t what you wanted, the previous version is one step away.
